Maple Table

An extension table made to breakdown for large events at my dojo, Brooklyn Aikikai

WOOD:

Live-edge Ambrosia/Spalted Maple slabs from Greenwood Cemetery (thank you to Reco-BK), Hand-shaped Ash Legs, Ambrosia Cherry "Arikata" butterfly splines, Ash in a butcher block style for the table stand

HARDWARE:

(4) 4" Rockler Bed Rail Fasteners for mounting of legs

FINISH:

Tried and True Varnish Oil. 

 

Tokonoma

"a recess or alcove, typically a few inches above floor level, for displaying flowers, pictures, and ornaments."

A memorial altar for the late T.K. Chiba Sensei, Founder of Birankai International and teacher of Aikido for over 50 years.

WOOD:

Live-edge Walnut for side and floor of the Tokonoma, Cherry Branch found in Prospect Park.

FINISH:

Tried and True Danish Oil.  This piece is regularly waxed with Carnuba Wax to maintain the quality and luster of the wood.

Tea Table

X-Wing Table Legs to compliment a Redwood Table Top. Legs can lay flat when need for easy storage.

Wood:

Spanish Cedar for legs. Redwood burl for table top (client already had).

Hardware:

Removable Brass rods, Brass washers

Meditation

Inspired by Zen Meditation and the Tokonoma, I created a small batch of "travel Tokonoma" to create a space of mindfulness no matter where you are.

This piece can be used for meditation practice, or as a memorial for ones who have passed.  There is a 3 inch cutout for placement of a picture, and enough space for a small statue, candle and flower arrangement or incense bowl.

ShakerShima

Nakashima and Shaker Inspired bench. A combination of a Captain's chair and a bench.  Can seat 2 people, or 1 person reclining.

Wood:

Live-edge Air-dried Walnut slab.  Hand turned Ash Spindles (with lathe turned ends for accurate installation)  Steam bent Ash chair back.  Walnut butterflies and plugs.

Finish:

Tried and True Danish Oil

ShakerCenter

Small Entertainment Center.  All panels and doors are hand-woven in a 1x1 checkered pattern.

Wood:

Cabinet Grade Birch Euro-ply for wood and door pulls.  Traditional Shaker tape in Gold for all weaving.

Oak Nightstands

Shaker-Style Nightstands. Butcher block table top, loose herringbone weave for door frame.

Wood:

White Oak

Hardware:

Antique Brass door hinges and pulls.  Brass screws for top installation. Brass powder and epoxy for knot filling. Ivory Twill tape for door weave. Rare-Earth Magnets used for quiet door closure.

Tried and True Danish Oil

Butternut Nighstand

Traditional Shaker Table. 

Wood:

Butternut for all elements, except for the Ash drawer face.  Live-edge Butternut drawer pull

Finish:

Tried and True Danish oil

A selection of handmade spoons for cooking or serving.

Walnut, Sapele, and Cherry

Finish:

Homemade blend of Walnut Oil and natural Beeswax
